Free Classical Music Education for Social Change

The Friends of the National Youth Orchestra of Jamaica Foundation was established by a group of volunteers in Ottawa in 2011 to support the work of the NYOJ. We are a Registered Charity supported by our generous donors. We are delighted to have also received support from the D'Addario Foundation.

The National Youth Orchestra of Jamaica

The National Youth Orchestra of Jamaica (NYOJ) is a not-for-profit, non-government organization engaged in the development of youth orchestras in Jamaica. Based on the El Sistema model started in Venezuela, the NYOJ manages this program for social change in challenged communities in Kingston, with plans to expand to other parts of the island. The NYOJ uses music education as a tool for social empowerment. It engages youths with an intensive and challenging programme in order to develop core values such as self-esteem, discipline and perseverance.
